Ghee(ghṛta in Sanskrit, from the prefix ghṛ- 'to sprinkle') is a type of clarified butter that originated in ancient India, made by simmering butter with spices for flavor. The texture, color, and taste depend on the quality of the butter, the type of milk used, and the amount of time the butter is left to simmer. Ghee is used in the cuisine of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent, and has also been used in both traditional medicine and religious rituals.
